Harsher Penalties For Drug Crimes Under Federal Law

Federal drug crime charges are similar to Wisconsin drug crime charges, but the penalties for a federal drug crime conviction are harsher and often times require mandatory sentencing for relatively small quantities of the drugs (controlled substances).

For example, if a person possesses more than 5 grams of "crack", the minimum penalty they face is 5 years in prison. If they possess more than 50 grams, the minimum penalty goes up to 10 years in prison.
